Setting up a premium robot vacuum correctly from the start ensures the best long-term performance. Here is our step-by-step setup guide.

Robot Vacuum Setup: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Setting up a premium robot vacuum correctly from the start ensures the best long-term performance. A poor initial setup can lead to navigation problems, missed areas, and frustration. Follow this guide for a perfect setup.

Step 1: Choose the Right Dock Location

The dock location is the most important setup decision. A poorly placed dock leads to navigation problems and missed areas.

Dock placement requirements:

  • At least 18 inches of clearance on each side
  • At least 48 inches of clearance in front
  • Near a power outlet
  • On a flat, stable surface
  • Not in a corner (the robot needs to approach from multiple angles)
  • Not near stairs or drop-offs
  • Step 2: Download and Set Up the App

Before powering on the robot, download the manufacturer's app and create an account. This ensures the robot connects to the app immediately on first power-on.

Step 3: Prepare Your Home for Initial Mapping

    Before the first mapping run:

  • Pick up loose cables and cords
  • Remove small objects from the floor
  • Open all doors to rooms you want mapped
  • Close doors to rooms you do not want mapped
  • Remove area rugs that might confuse the robot (add them back after mapping)
  • Step 4: Run the Initial Mapping

Use the dedicated mapping mode (not a cleaning run) for the initial map.
